Welcome To The June 2010 Issue
Moffitt Cancer Center recognizes the importance of sarcoma awareness, and this issue of Moffitt MOMENTUM discusses how specialists are exploring ways to provide the best individualized treatment based on the diagnosis of each disease.
Additionally, if you or someone you care about is a smoker who wants to quit, you can find out about a study now being conducted.
Sincerely,
The Moffitt Cancer Center Team
Sarcoma Can Be Challenging To Diagnose And Treat
Novel surgical techniques and therapies spell hope for patients with sarcoma, a rare disease of the bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels or other connective or supportive tissue.
Sarcoma awareness is crucial, and you will read how a survivor of a form of sarcoma called leiomyosarcoma is supporting a resolution to name July as Sarcoma Awareness Month.

Moffitt Patient/Family Testimonial
Scott Andringa says a diagnosis of osteosarcoma of the humerus, followed by a year of treatment that included chemotherapy and reconstructive surgery, did not keep him from pursuing the sports activities he loves. As soon as possible, he was back playing hockey, a sport he now plays one or two times a week. He also is enjoying kayaking again and even was able to go ice climbing in Alaska.
